Restoration and reconstruction of the Klais organ from 1905

(photo taken prior to restoration)

The organ was built back in 1905 by the founder of our workshop Johannes Klais (1852-1925) and grand-grandfather of Philipp C. A. Klais, managing director and owner. It was Opus 296 of the company and had 17 stops on two manuals and pedal. The action was entirely tubular-pneumtaic and was changed to electro-peumatic in 1973 when also console was replaced.

In the left case the pipework of the I. Manual is housed, divided in the upper bass chest (C-TF) and the lower treble chest (TG- top) in the lower case. On the right side we have the pipework of the II. Manual behind the facade pipes and the pedal in the lower case.

As the instrument is basically preserved in its original condition (chests, most of the pipework and case are still original) it is desirable to restore all original parts and reconstruct the lost ones.

Therefore it is necessary to reconstruct the lost pneumatic console, the tubular-pneumstic action, the lost double-rise bellow with blower handle, the original facade pipes (which had been handed over to the authorities in 1917 to be recast as ammunition and replaced in the 20s in zinc) and the original ductwork on the chests.
