News of The Organ Building World Germany

Ludwigshafen-Ruchheim/DE, St. Cyriakus

We have finished the restoration of the historic organ built by Johann Georg Geib in 1818.

In the second half of the 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century the organbuilder Geib belonged to the most prominent organbuilders in the middle Rhine area. His works he mainly built in the area of the present Palatinate. One of his still existent instruments is the organ in the Abbey of Lambrecht, built in 1777. This work shows certain stylistic similarities to the organbuilding family Stumm of the "Hunsrück".

Also the organ case in Ruchheim shows a stylistic approach to the family Stumm, although in detail there are big differences. The organ case of Ruchheim corresponds to a case model Geib used several times. The instrument of 1818/19 which has been completed by the son of Johann-Georg Geib shows despite all changes a high amount of existing original material like i.e. the whole key action, the wind chests, the original organ facade and a lot of original pipes.
