Overview

People in a living work process

Concentration in workshops. Concentrating on the essentials. The employees live in their profession and they love it.

Also in the evening you meet in the workshop staff who still want to finish a job, take time for the maturation of a solution or want to discuss a problem with colleagues in peace. The workshop is almost like a home and often one gets the impression that this is a big family.

The organ brings together people with very different talents. Debate takes place, sometimes with friction, but always constructive. The common goal unites. Mutual respect is based on cooperation.

Once the overall design of the instrument is outlined, detailed plans are developed in close consultation with the workshop. The Musical and craftsmanship can begin: In the foundry tin plates will be cast and subsequently planed by hand to the desired thickness, at the languid thinner than at the end of the resonator, exactly to the tenth of a millimeter.

The finished sheets are rounded and soldered to pipe bodies - sometimes hammered if the sound requires it. In the carpentry shop wind chests are made, right next door to wooden pipes being glued and planed. Throughout the workshop there is diligence, all is movement. Planes gliding over wood, chips fly, sharp knives intersect singing into tin.

Organ building is an art at home in the most different materials. In the workshop, all parts of the instruments are made: cases, consoles, chests, pipes, from solid belt frames to the filigree mechanics. Organ building is a holistic activity, it is more than the sum of individual activities. The employees of Klais are aware of this wholeness.
